Steam saunas are used by millions of people all over the world. They date back as far as two thousand years.

Their health benefits are unsurpassed. The Finnish people are credited with the spread of the steam sauna. They are used by millions of people all over Finland several times a week. What we ask now is, are saunas safe for children? Read our in depth article on our website!

While saunas are relatively safe for almost every adult. And do offer a maraud of health benefits. It is recommended that children under the age of 8 should not use the sauna alone.

They should always be supervised by an adult and never stay longer than 10 to 15 minutes. They should be introduced to the sauna slowly over several weeks for 5 minutes a session.

While in the sauna children should be monitored for signs of overheating. This would include the child feeling dizzy, nauseated, or fatigued.

If any of these systems occur the child should exit the sauna immediately. Children can get overheated quite quickly as their bodies cannot adjust to high temperatures as efficiently as an adult.

So while with adult supervision it is relatively safe for children to enjoy the sauna for 10 to 15 minutes. A longer session is not advisable.

Keeping hydrated is very important, children should be taught from an early age that drinking a glass of water before and after a sauna is very good for them.

By puberty the body changes and can regulate body temperature much easier. Therefore it becomes safe for them to use the sauna for up to 30 minutes a session.

As most teens often suffer from stress and anxiety over their changing bodies. A nice relaxing, stress and anxiety relieving sauna may just the thing they need.

Everyone with a little care can use the sauna and share hours of relaxation and enjoyment and all the health benefits they have to offer.

Accessories And Essential Oils For Your Steam Sauna

There are plenty of sauna accessories on the market today. And they are available for whatever type of sauna you purchase. From an indoor sauna that seats 4 to an outdoor sauna, and even individual personal steam or infrared saunas.

If you are thinking of an outdoor sauna, some accessories you may wish to purchase are a stove. You can choose wood, gas or electricity, depending on if power is available. You can purchase benches, and even a bucket with ladle for ladling the water over your hot rocks.

An indoor sauna is basically the same, you can get a stove of your choice, although wood may be impractical due to the fact it's a fire hazard. Maybe a few towel racks, chairs or benches or maybe even some special light fixtures.

When it comes to personal steam saunas there are plenty of options that come along with them. For instance you could get a small stool or folding chair.

How about a steam pot these are great if you want to enhance your sauna experience, just add a few drops of essential oils along with some water and suddenly you have turned an ordinary sauna session in to an aromatherapy session.

If you are considering an infrared sauna. Some accessories you may wish to purchase are foot rests, chair or small stool. You can purchase an aromatherapy cup which enables you to use essential oils.

These cups are simple to use just place a few drops of oil in the cup place it in the sauna after it heats up then get ready to sit back and enjoy.

I would also like to mention some saunas have accessories already. They can be accompanied by remote controls, removable neck towels or their own canvas chairs.

But I'm convinced no matter what sauna you choose and whatever accessories come along with it or you decide to purchase you will be please with your choice and enjoy it for many sauna sessions.

Origins and History Of The Sauna

While the sauna is thought to originate in Finland it has become very popular in different cultures all over the world. They are used not only for their health benefits but also for ceremonial and religious reasons.

The native Americans have a version of the sauna and refer to it as a sweat lodge. This lodge is typically dome shaped and made of all natural materials.

These buildings were prompted by European influences, and its corrupting effects on the native culture. With the European introduction of alcohol, and the inhumane treatment of the natives the need to re-purify and find their way back to the traditional ways became very important.

Now with the help of medicine men and woman, and the healing powers of the sweat lodge, they believed they could repair the damage done to their health as well as their mind.

The sweat lodge was a place for spiritual guidance, a place to get answers and needed wisdom from the creator and mother earth.

Different cultures use saunas for many reasons, be it religious, spiritual or healing of body and mind. The one thing that never changes is the health benefits of sauna use.

As far back as Roman times bathing has always been important. In fact the ancient Romans bathed every day in the hot steamy baths built over natural hot springs.

If fact many of these such baths were built and the public used them for a nominal fee. Some of the larger baths could accommodate up to 3000 people.

Then the Roman method of bathing spread with the expansion of their vast empire. And as it spread it began to change, evolve and grow. Now saunas are used all around the world and the list of their benefits continue to grow.

With the addition of the infrared saunas and the fact they have become portable, anyone and everyone can now own a personal sauna and reap all the marvelous benefits they have to offer.

Some Of The Differences Between Types Of Saunas

Last time I posted an article, I forgot to put the links in. So click this link to go to the primary page I forgot to link to before.

Now on with the Blog Post!

This week I posted a great article on some of the differences between different types of saunas. It's a pretty long article so if you visit it here http://saunarevolution.net/different-types-saunas/  you can read the entire thing.

Otherwise, here is a quick synopsis:

While there are numerous saunas available on the market today, the benefits of their use remains the same. Each type of sauna has it's own list of pros and cons.

The built in sauna for example can be an asset when selling your home. These saunas can either be built inside or out. The out side sauna being a little easier than an inside one.

For the outside sauna, several kits are available, but basically all you need is a small building with a bench and some form of heat. Most outdoor saunas use a small stove and wood heat, the sauna rocks heat up in a container on top of the stove, then you splash the water over them to create steam

An inside sauna is generally built in a spare room in the basement. Added care must be taken to ensure a protective moisture resistant barrier is properly installed to protect your home from mould and mildew damage, especially if you are installing a steam sauna. Kits for indoor steam saunas are also available.

Nowadays saunas have many different heating systems, and can be built for use with or without steam. The steam saunas are referred to as wet saunas the others are dry saunas.

Dry saunas have plenty of heating choices, wood while still popular is used mainly in the outdoor saunas. While inside the use of gas, electric or Far infrared is preferred, due to the wood type being a slight fire hazard.

No matter whether you choose a wet or dry sauna you will be doing your body a favour. Not only are saunas excellent at detoxifying your body, but also have numerous other health benefits.

Another benefit of your built in sauna would be the fact you can use the sauna whenever the mood strikes you. And you don't have to travel anywhere, as its available anytime right in your own home.

What's New At Sauna Revolution

Last week I posted two new articles on the main site.

The first article, and the primary one, is my massive buying guide for portable saunas. It clocked in at over 5000 words of awesomeness meant to help you decide which portable sauna to buy.

By the way, the best one is the one on the left! You'll have to visit saunarevolution.net to read the review.

The second post I made was all about health benefits of saunas.

From steam saunas, traditional saunas, infrared... the list goes on but while they all vary one thing remains constant.

A sauna is excellent for your over all health! The benefits are simply astounding.

There are little known benefits like looking younger, having great hair and using portable saunas like a performance enhancing drug.

There are the well known benefits like cardiovascular improvements and detoxing.

Do yourself a favor and head over to the site and read the articles! I'll be posting a more complete synopsis later this week.

Thanks!
