Steam Saunas And Kids: Do They Mix Well?

Steam saunas are used by millions of people all over the world. They date back as far as two thousand years.

While saunas are relatively safe for almost every adult. And do offer a maraud of health benefits. It is recommended that children under the age of 8 should not use the sauna alone.

They should always be supervised by an adult and never stay longer than 10 to 15 minutes. They should be introduced to the sauna slowly over several weeks for 5 minutes a session.

While in the sauna children should be monitored for signs of overheating. This would include the child feeling dizzy, nauseated, or fatigued.

If any of these systems occur the child should exit the sauna immediately. Children can get overheated quite quickly as their bodies cannot adjust to high temperatures as efficiently as an adult.

So while with adult supervision it is relatively safe for children to enjoy the sauna for 10 to 15 minutes. A longer session is not advisable.

Keeping hydrated is very important, children should be taught from an early age that drinking a glass of water before and after a sauna is very good for them.

By puberty the body changes and can regulate body temperature much easier. Therefore it becomes safe for them to use the sauna for up to 30 minutes a session.

As most teens often suffer from stress and anxiety over their changing bodies. A nice relaxing, stress and anxiety relieving sauna may just the thing they need.
